ITANAGAR, Apr 04: Rupees one crore was seized by Longding district police search team while frisking at Kanubari police check gate on Thursday morning, according to superintendent of police (SP) Dekio Gumja.
The seizure was made while searching a Fortuner car bearing Assam registration, he said, adding as per preliminary investigation, the huge cash belonged to one Badri Rai Company, whose construction works are going on at Sonari Medical College and Sivasagar Police Battalion in Assam, Brigade headquarters at Tirap district HQs Khonsa. The cash was being transported to pay wages of labourers, he informed.
It is the duty of the frisking team to ensure seizure of above Rs. 50,000 on the spot as per model code of conduct in force due to simultaneous Assembly and Lok Sabha elections scheduled on April 19, the SP said, adding that the cash would be handed over to income tax department as per legal procedure.
